MyPassivHaus.uk will document my attempt to get a 1930 semi-detached house, from its existing state, with solid walls, cheap double glazing, poor roof insulation and a north facing "conservatory" upto Passiv Haus standards. Ideally, I want to be able to reduce the heating bills to almost zero.
The items I want to cover (in no particular order) are
- Roof insulation
- LED lamps througout
- Heating system improvements (TRV)
- Triple glazing
- Low U value external doors
- Heat recovery ventilation system
- Conservatoy / Trombe wall on south west side
- Large insulated porch on south east side
- Replace conservatory with extension on north west side
- Solar thermal installation for hot water
- Solar thermal system for heating
- Solar PV system for electricity
- Underfloor insulation & heating system
- Season thermal energy store
We are still very early days and investigating all the options. Money is also quite tight, so it won't happen all at once.
